28 Spots. Free. January Through March. The Flower Mound Citizens Academy Is Taking Applications Now.

Most people learn how town government works by accident — usually when something happens to their street, their neighborhood, or their water bill. The Flower Mound Citizens Academy is the faster way.

Registration for the 2027 Citizens Academy is open now. Residents and business owners who participate will hear from Town staff about what the government does and why. Staff will hear back, too: when the 2026 class graduated, the Town noted that staff learned from participants, calling the class "an engaged group" that asked questions at every session and gave helpful feedback.

Eleven sessions run between January and March at various Town facilities, 6 to 8 p.m., most of them on Tuesdays, with a graduation ceremony at a regular Town Council meeting to close things out. Most sessions are classroom-style. A few involve walking through actual Town facilities, and each participant also has to sit in on one regular Council meeting during the program.

Here's what to know before you apply: there's no cost to attend — any Flower Mound resident or business owner who is at least 18 qualifies — but you'll need to show up for at least 9 of the 11 sessions, and only 28 spots exist. The 2026 cycle filled quickly enough that a waitlist opened and then closed. The 2027 cycle opened Sunday, Nov. 2, 2026.

Apply at flowermound.gov/fmca before those 28 slots fill.
