The town spent the fall planting trees along Morriss Road that you'll drive past for decades. Saturday, Nov. 7, it's your turn.

Flower Mound's Environmental Services department is holding its annual Arbor Day tree giveaway at the Town Arboretum at Westchester Park. Pre-registration is required. Once you register, you'll get a designated pickup time and a confirmation to bring with you. The giveaway is capped at one tree per household, and the town will cancel duplicate registrations to keep the waitlist moving.

Native varieties are on offer. All are native to North Texas, meaning they're built for the heat and dry spells that knock out ornamentals bought on impulse at the big-box stores. There's also a raffle at Saturday's event — enter for a chance at a larger specimen tree.

The day before, on Friday, Nov. 6, the town holds a planting ceremony at Town Hall starting at 4 p.m. Staff will put a Bald Cypress in the ground — the last of 31 new trees planted along Morriss Road medians between Cross Timbers and Flower Mound roads this season. After the remarks, Post Oak seedlings go out to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis, with a raffle for larger trees on offer as well.

If Saturday's registration is already full when you check, join the waitlist. Any unclaimed trees from Nov. 7 will be available at Town Hall during regular business hours — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — from Monday, Nov. 9, through Wednesday, Nov. 11.

One more thing worth knowing: the town's Tree Rebate Program, which gives money back on qualifying trees you buy yourself, reopened Nov. 1, 2026, after running out of funds earlier this year. Check flowermound.gov for both the giveaway registration link and the rebate details.
