After Nearly Two Decades Off the Road, Flower Mound Police Are Back on Motorcycles
Two officers volunteered, trained with DPS, and are already out there — watch for them at the intersections you know are trouble.

If you commute through any of Flower Mound's busier intersections, you may have already noticed something new in your mirror: a police motorcycle.
The Flower Mound Police Department's Motorcycle Unit is back on the streets after nearly two decades away. The department first launched a Motorcycle Unit years ago — but when those bikes aged out, no replacements came, and the unit quietly disappeared. That left a gap of nearly nineteen years.
Two officers stepped up to close it. Both raised their hands for the assignment, then put in the work to earn it: a certification course run by the Texas Department of Public Safety, followed by additional time riding alongside motorcycle units from neighboring agencies. They volunteered, they trained, and now they're on the road.
The case for bringing motorcycles back isn't about novelty — it's about geometry. Patrol vehicles remain the backbone of the fleet, but motorcycles give officers another tool for traffic safety. They're especially effective at busy intersections and other high-incident locations where a traditional patrol car isn't always the best fit. A cruiser sitting at an intersection is easy to spot from two blocks out. A motorcycle tucked closer to the signal is a different story.
This is a Police Department operational decision, so no public vote or public meeting was required. The unit is already active.
If there's an intersection in your neighborhood you think deserves attention — school-zone speeders, chronic red-light runners — flag it through the Police Department at flowermound.gov.
