Denton County Lifted Its Burn Ban October 5. Charcoal Grills and Fire Pits at Flower Mound Parks Are Back.
Six weeks of no campfires and no charcoal is over — at least on the Denton side of the county line.

If you had a picnic or a campfire weekend on hold, the wait on the Denton side is done.
Denton County lifted its mandatory burn ban effective Oct. 5. That means the charcoal grills at Flower Mound park pavilions and the fire pits at Twin Coves Park are open for use again — both had been off-limits since late August.
The ban came down on Aug. 25 in response to drought conditions and the nearby Ross Fire. It was lifted Oct. 5 following several days of rain. No drought emergency, no active ban.
If you're near the county line, read this part. The burn ban in unincorporated Tarrant County is still in effect. Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved that ban on August 13, 2026, for unincorporated Tarrant County. Worth knowing: that Tarrant order excludes cooking, welding, and the use of fire pits for social gatherings, so the rules there are different in character from what Denton had. Still, if you're not sure which county your backyard sits in, check before you light anything. The Tarrant County ban was issued as a 90-day order and has not been lifted.

Violating a burn ban in either county is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.
On an approved burn day in Denton County, burn day status is decided daily between 8 and 9 a.m., with local wind and weather conditions factored into the risk assessment. That applies to open burning of vegetation in unincorporated areas — not to your charcoal grill at Pavilion 4. Park grills and Twin Coves fire pits are simply back to normal.
FloMoBee covered the original ban in August, when two counties, stretched firefighting resources, and a 50,000-acre fire in Palo Pinto County all landed at once. Conditions had to improve significantly before this order could come down. They did. Enjoy the fire pit.
