Denton County's New Budget Is Live — and Your Tax Rate Dropped Again
The rate dropped again, the $495 million budget is now in effect, and your county bill on a $400,000 home just got about $10 lighter.

As of October 1, the Denton County FY 2026–2027 budget is in effect. That means your county tax rate changed this week.
The new rate is 18.3394¢ per $100 of assessed value, down from 18.5938¢ last year. Commissioners Court voted on September 22 to adopt it. Third consecutive year of decreases.
On a $400,000 home, the county portion of your tax bill drops by about $10. Real, not dramatic. Worth keeping in proportion: the county slice is roughly 10 percent of the overall bill. Flower Mound residents also pay the town's rate plus whatever Lewisville ISD sets — those are separate lines on the same statement.
A lower rate does not mean a leaner budget. The total approved by Commissioners Court is $495,100,302, with an estimated $9.3 million going to public safety and $5.3 million to judicial and legal divisions. The permanent improvement fund allocates $15.6 million across three priorities: building the Tabor Ranch Fire Station, ongoing work to restore the Courthouse-on-the-Square, and keeping county facilities in good repair through preventative maintenance.
So why does the rate fall while spending rises? As Denton County's population grows, more residents generate more revenue through car registrations, fees, and intergovernmental transfers. Commissioners can fund expanded services without lifting the rate.
