Fall Eco-Action Day Is Saturday — at a New Address on Morriss Road

Load up the car with old electronics, paper to shred, and those wire hangers you've been ignoring — just make sure you're heading to the right place.

If your garage has been quietly collecting old laptops, a box of sensitive documents, and a bag of plastic bags with nowhere to go, Saturday is the morning to deal with all of it.

Keep Flower Mound Beautiful's Fall Eco-Action Day runs this Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. One catch before you load up: the event has a new location this year — Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church at 6101 Morriss Rd., with entry from Morriss Rd.

The drop-off accepts a solid range of things curbside pickup won't touch. Bring paper documents for shredding (residential only — no business or commercial materials), small appliances, small furniture, clothing and textiles, electronics (no TVs), pens and markers, eyeglasses, plastic bags and thin-film plastic, wire clothes hangers, books, and gently used sneakers.

Worth knowing what they won't take: liquids of any kind, fluorescent bulbs, vehicle batteries, tires, large furniture, and medications are all off the list.

The community cleanup piece runs alongside the drop-off. Groups can claim a spot around town and beautify it, but registration for the trash-off is required ahead of time at kfmb.org/eco-action-day.

Medications are out at this event, but there is a year-round option. The Flower Mound Police Department keeps a medication drop box at its facility at 4150 Kirkpatrick Ln. — no event, no schedule, just walk in whenever and leave your unwanted, unused, or expired prescriptions behind.

Head to Trietsch Memorial UMC on Morriss Rd., arrive after 8:30 a.m., and leave the televisions, car batteries, and pill bottles at home.
