Flower Mound Crews Rolled to a Three-Alarm Fire at Killough High School — and the Hard Questions Start Now
The roof burned while the building was already under renovation. LISD hasn't said a word about fall yet.

Late Tuesday night, June 30, a neighbor on Summit Avenue in Lewisville looked up, saw black smoke rolling off a roof, and called 911. That call sent firefighters to Lewisville High School – Killough campus — and kept them there through the early morning hours.
A three-alarm fire broke out on the roof of Killough High School late Tuesday night, drawing a massive response from local firefighters who worked into the early morning hours to contain the blaze. Emergency crews were dispatched to the campus at approximately 9:30 p.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report black smoke billowing from the building.
Your fire department was in that parking lot. Firefighters from Flower Mound, Lake Cities, The Colony, and Carrollton assisted Lewisville in fighting the fire at the school. This is what mutual aid looks like in southern Denton County — when one department calls, the neighbors come.
"When tones dropped for a possible commercial structure fire, Lewisville Fire Department immediately dispatched 11 units to a large 'Big Box' building currently under renovation," said Lewisville FD in a post to social media. Eleven units. Not a small call.
To release trapped smoke, crews cut several ventilation holes through a dense layer of roofing material. The blaze was largely brought under control, and personnel then turned their attention to locating and extinguishing hot spots hidden within the roof structure. According to Lewisville's Battalion Chief Delane Graham, "everyone did their job," which helped crews efficiently put out the blaze.
Good news on two fronts. The school was empty when the fire started, and no injuries were reported, officials said. Crews successfully prevented the flames from breaching interior classrooms and hallways.
Nobody knows the full damage yet. Officials did not release any information regarding the extent of the damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation, according to Lewisville Fire Department officials. According to a dispatch call, it smelled like fireworks had been shot in the area — but the cause has not been officially confirmed.
The timing is the problem. The Lewisville High School – Killough campus caught fire late Tuesday night in the middle of its renovations. LISD bond projects at Killough include 20-Year Life Cycle Maintenance and Repair work on the main campus. Fire damage to a roof already under active construction is not a clean situation to untangle — assessors have to separate what the fire did from what construction was already touching.
Lewisville High School has two additional campuses, LHS Killough and LHS Harmon, and ninth- and tenth-grade students attend both of these campuses before attending classes on the main campus for their junior and senior years. A delay at Killough is not just an inconvenience. It's a ripple across a whole class of incoming freshmen and their families.
As of today, July 7, LISD has not issued any public statement on the fall opening timeline or where students would go if Killough can't receive them on schedule. That silence is the thing to watch. The district's first-day calendar, the renovation contractors, and every ninth-grader's family are all waiting on the same answer.
