Flower Mound Finally Has a Whataburger
Dirt on Long Prairie Road, two drive-thrus, 24 hours — the wait is over for the largest Texas city that didn't have one.

If you've ever made a late-night burger run to Lewisville or Highland Village and thought why do I live here, the answer is now 3201 Long Prairie Road.
This is the first Whataburger location in Flower Mound — which held the dubious distinction of being the largest municipality in Texas without one. The town's 77,243 residents had to drive to Lewisville or Highland Village for their fix. That particular indignity is done.
The $2.5 million, 3,335-square-foot restaurant has two drive-thru lanes and is open 24 hours a day. Two drive-thrus isn't a luxury here — it's a confession that the brand knows exactly how car-dependent this stretch of Long Prairie is. Town Council approved the project back in April 2023, so this one had been a long time coming. Longer than anyone planned: the project was delayed at about every step since that original approval.
Flower Mound's Whataburger at 3201 Long Prairie Road opened at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5. Operating Partner Erica Alfaro credited the town's growth: "Now, Flower Mound has reached a critical mass of people, particularly families who appreciate the bold, fresh flavors Whataburger has been serving since 1950."
That's a franchise voting with $2.5 million that Flower Mound has finally crossed the threshold. And it tends to be contagious. When one chain that was circling finally lands, others watching the same demographic data take notice. The town's estimated 2024 population was 81,270, with a median household income of $161,235. Chains don't ignore those numbers forever.
One small footnote: Slim Chickens, which was part of the original 2023 development plan, is no longer coming to the site, and its replacement hasn't been named yet. So the retail picture on that corner isn't fully drawn.
For now, though: if you need a burger at 2 a.m. in Flower Mound, you no longer have to leave town.
