Flower Mound Has a New Mandatory Watering Schedule — Here's What It Means for Your Lawn

Check the last digit of your street address. That number now decides which two days a week you're legally allowed to run your sprinklers.

Flower Mound announced the new mandatory schedule on March 20, 2026, as part of an updated Long-Term Water Conservation Plan — codified under Ordinance No. 40-25. This is not a drought emergency stage or a temporary ask. It's baked into the town's baseline rules going forward.

The schedule is straightforward. Even-numbered addresses water on Tuesday and Friday. Odd-numbered addresses water on Wednesday and Saturday. Commercial properties, HOAs, and multi-family complexes get Monday and Thursday. Everyone is banned from running automatic irrigation or hose-end sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. No exceptions.

That midday blackout is the part most people will trip over. A lot of smart irrigation controllers default to mid-morning or noon runs. Go into your controller settings now, before July heat turns your yard into a liability.

The good news: hand-held hoses, drip irrigation, faucet-filled buckets, rainwater harvested on-site, and private wells are all exempt. Water your foundation with a soaker hose any time you want. The restrictions target automatic and hose-end sprinkler systems — the ones that run without anyone watching.

Ignore the schedule and violations start with a written warning, escalate to fines, and repeated offenses can trigger temporary disconnection of water service. Not a suggestion dressed up as a rule.

The why is simple. More than half the water used in North Texas during summer goes to outdoor watering. When every yard in Flower Mound runs at noon on a 100-degree afternoon, simultaneous peak demand strains the water system and everyone's pressure drops. Staggering usage by address and banning the worst evaporation window is the town's bet that it can stay out of the emergency stage that would cut everyone to once a week.

That escalation is real. If conditions worsen — drought or water storage issues — the Town may enter its Emergency Water Demand Management Plan, triggering further restrictions. The current schedule is the comfortable version. Cooperate now or deal with tighter rules later.
