Flower Mound High School Gets a Principal Who Already Knows Every Hallway

If your kid walks into Flower Mound High School this fall, the person setting the tone will already know the place cold.

Lewisville ISD has named Shannon Knowles as the next principal of Flower Mound High School. Knowles most recently served as principal of Argyle High School and returns to FMHS — where she previously served as assistant and associate principal for seven years — bringing 27 years of experience in public education to the role.

That seven-year stretch is the whole story here. She joined FMHS in 2017 as an associate principal and remained in that position for seven years, overseeing athletics, performing arts, academic UIL, and special education. She didn't just work there. She knew which programs had traction, which ones were held together by one person's energy, and which parts of campus culture were genuinely the school's and which were just habit. That's not something you can read in a handoff binder.

She leaves Argyle ISD after having served as principal of that district's high school campus since 2024. While there, she led campus improvement efforts focused on instructional alignment, CCMR outcomes, and staff development. Two years as a principal, then a return to one of the largest high school campuses in LISD. The question isn't whether she's qualified. It's whether the FMHS she remembers from 2024 is still the same school.

It isn't, quite. Student cohorts turn over. Staff changes. Programs that were struggling in 2024 may have found their footing, and vice versa. The instinct to restore what she loved from her first tenure is understandable. Acting on it without checking what's actually working now would be a mistake.

LISD Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp said, "Shannon Knowles knows this campus, knows this community, and knows what it takes to lead at the highest level," adding that "her combination of deep roots at Flower Mound High School and the growth she has experienced as a principal makes her the ideal person to lead FMHS into its next chapter."

Knowles said Flower Mound High School "holds a very special place in my heart" and that she looks forward to "building on the incredible foundation already in place." That phrase — building on — is worth holding onto. Staff and families who knew her first run will be watching to see if she means it.

The practical upside for Jaguar families is real: no six-month learning curve, no guessing which assistant principal to actually call, no principal who needs someone to explain why the Peters Colony corridor traffic situation is its own universe. She already knows. That matters.

Watch the first semester for signals. Does she preserve what her successor built, or start pulling threads? Whose phone calls does she return first? The answers will say more than any welcome-back message.
