Flower Mound Road Construction Is in Its Final Phase — Expect Delays Through July

If your morning drive takes you along Flower Mound Road, you have about six more weeks of this.

The last phase of road work on Flower Mound Road was set to begin June 2, weather permitting, with F&F Concrete Construction working on the outside eastbound travel lane between Old Settlers Road and Arbor Creek Lane. That's the same crew that's been tearing up and rebuilding this stretch in stages. Phase five of five.

During construction, the inside eastbound lane stays open to traffic, but the south side of the Arbor Creek intersection will be closed. Plan accordingly if that's your turn.

The project is expected to last 40 days. A June 2 start puts the finish line around mid-July, with the full project expected to wrap by the end of July, weather permitting. That qualifier is doing real work. July in North Texas means afternoon storms, and one bad week of rain can push a 40-day job into August. Back-to-school traffic plus an active construction zone is exactly what the town's scheduling is meant to avoid.

"This work has been scheduled over the summer months to minimize disruption, particularly with school out of session," Communications Director Melissa Demmitt said. That's a reasonable call. Marcus High sends thousands of cars through this corridor on a normal school morning. A construction delay in September would hurt a lot more people.

As for what drivers are actually getting out of this: the project includes lane reconstruction, repairs of concrete road panels, storm drainage improvements, and ADA accessibility enhancements. Not glamorous. But Demmitt was direct — "We're replacing the failed concrete panels as part of our ongoing maintenance program to extend the overall life of the roadway and avoid more costly full reconstruction in the future." Cheaper now than later.

The estimated cost for this final phase is $500,000. The entire Flower Mound Road concrete panel replacement project costs $2.2 million and is funded through the town's sales tax dedication to street maintenance — no new debt, no special assessment. Flower Mound residents have already been paying for this every time they bought something in town.

Traffic delays during the project are expected, and work crews will post detour signage for alternate routes around the construction area. If you can swing south to Cross Timbers or north to Morriss, those are your best bets during peak hours. The segment between Old Settlers and Arbor Creek is the one to watch.

July is the finish line. Hit it, and the road comes back in better shape than it's been in years. Miss it, and this bleeds into fall — and that's a much harder story for everyone.
