Flower Mound's Arts Center Is Being Designed Right Now — and You Can Shape It
The pre-design phase is live, community input sessions are coming, and this is the window that actually moves walls.

The performing arts center Flower Mound has talked about since 2018 is past the talking stage. Architects are drawing. Decisions about acoustics, parking flow, stage size, and how the building meets the River Walk trail are being made right now — and the town is holding resident feedback sessions before any of it hardens.
Architecture firm Hoefer Welker + BORA Architects has moved into a pre-design phase covering visioning, space programming, conceptual design, benchmarking tours, and community engagement. This is the window.
The center will sit on 3.67 acres of town-owned land at 4200 River Walk Drive. Planned amenities could include a main stage theater, flexible performance spaces, classrooms, a gallery, exhibition space, and outdoor areas connected to the River Walk trail system and neighboring restaurants and retail.
The project is funded in part through TIRZ #1 — the tax increment reinvestment zone for the FM 2499 corridor. Denton County has also agreed to contribute through its participation in the zone.
Early concepts put the building at roughly 40,000 square feet, with spaces ranging from a main theater and a black-box venue to music and dance classrooms, art studios, and gallery areas — plus an outdoor performance lawn that feeds into the River Walk trail network. Target opening: spring 2029.

Resident Doris Aguirre, who attended an earlier feedback session, said it directly. "I really hope that this new arts center enhances the River Walk and brings people into the River Walk because the River Walk is actually very beautiful," she said. "If they work together to kind of connect one to the other, I think they can bring people into those restaurants."
That connection — between the arts center and the surrounding shops and dining — is central to the town's vision for the site.
The practical takeaway: The town is scheduling resident feedback sessions and stakeholder workshops throughout the design process. To get notified when those sessions are announced, sign up for email updates on the town's arts center page at flowermound.gov/2754. Come with something specific — the kind of performances your family attends, thoughts on the outdoor lawn, whether dance studios or music classrooms matter more to you. General enthusiasm is fine. Specific feedback is what architects can actually use.
