Flower Mound's Flag Relay Is Looking for Runners — and It Only Takes an Online Application to Get In

You don't have to run 32 miles. Nobody does. That's the whole point of a relay.

This November, the town is looking for volunteer runners to carry an American flag more than 32 miles through Flower Mound in its annual Veterans Day Relay Run — and right now, your only job is to fill out an application online.

The event has brought together the Town of Flower Mound and resident volunteers to honor veterans every year since 2014. Each relay runner covers roughly one to two miles, passing the flag to the next person at a designated handoff point. Think of it less like a race and more like a moving ceremony — one that winds through the neighborhoods and roads you actually live on.

The course starts and ends at the Flower Mound Community Activity Center. The finish brings a post-run celebration at the Community Activity Center that's open to the public, so even if you're not running, there's a reason to show up at the end.

Participation is free. Chosen runners are notified of their relay location and time in October. Check the application for any pre-race requirements and dates once you're in.

To apply: Head to flowermound.gov/relay. The application is online, takes a few minutes, and the town is actively accepting them now. Past relay deadlines have landed in late September to mid-October, so don't sit on it.
