The rate stays flat, but the town is absorbing real cost pressure, and three dates this month decide where the money goes.

The number on your property tax bill from the town isn't going up. The proposed FY 2026-27 budget maintains the current property tax rate of $0.387277 per $100 of assessed valuation. Same rate as last year, and the year before that.

Flat isn't the same as easy, though. The proposed budget reflects difficult choices made throughout the budget process to balance available revenue with the services residents rely on, and the town must continue managing the long-term impact of rising costs and state-imposed limits on property tax revenue growth. The town's own budget page says it directly: the cost of providing public services is rising faster than local governments can increase revenue without voter approval.

What that looks like on the ground: staff-recommended decision packages, if any, will be focused on maintaining existing service levels rather than expanding services. Holding the line, not growing it.

Updated revenue estimates, months of budget work, and cost-saving efforts across the organization put the town's budget outlook in stronger shape than originally projected — which is what made a flat rate possible at all. Homeowners will keep two exemptions already in place: a 20% homestead exemption and a separate $150,000 exemption available to residents who are 65 or older or carry a qualifying disability.

One thing worth knowing if your home's appraised value went up this year: the rate holds, but your bill probably won't. A flat rate applied to a higher assessed value still means a higher payment to the town.

Three dates to put on the calendar. Thursday, August 13 is the Town Council Budget Work Session. Monday, August 17, Council will vote to consider a maximum tax rate and schedule a public hearing. That hearing falls on September 14, when Town Council will also vote on budget adoption.

The budget document is already public at flowermound.gov/proposedbudget. All Town Council meetings are held at Flower Mound Town Hall. The September 14 public hearing is the formal on-the-record chance to weigh in before the vote. Questions or comments in the meantime can go to budget@flowermound.gov.
