FM 2499 Carries Active Construction from Two Simultaneous Projects Through Mid-2027
If Long Prairie Road is your daily route, the orange cones aren't going anywhere soon — here's what's happening and when it ends.

If you drive FM 2499 between Flower Mound and Highland Village, your commute is running through two overlapping construction zones right now — and neither one wraps up anytime soon.
The larger project centers on the FM 2499 and FM 3040 intersection. Flower Mound Town Council approved a contract worth over $2.82 million with 2L Construction in March, and Denton County Commissioners Court committed up to $3.5 million toward the cost. The work rebuilds one of the corridor's busiest choke points: when finished, each approach will have its own dedicated right-turn lane, two left-turn lanes, and three lanes of through traffic. Council was shown a timeline putting construction completion in July 2027.
The FM 407 intersection is a separate job entirely. TxDOT took over that stretch in June 2025. As of this spring, crews still had signal work, ADA ramp construction, retaining walls, paving, and lane striping ahead of them, with a target completion of July 2026. Weekday lane closures run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Smaller work has shown up on the corridor too. In June, the Town sent crews for pavement repairs on the eastbound lane of FM 2499 near Lakeside Village Boulevard, with an expected finish of July 1.
So at multiple points along the same road, construction is active at once. Not a patch here and there. A corridor in sustained renovation.
What to know if you drive it regularly: The FM 407 intersection runs weekday midday closures consistently. The FM 3040 project is reconstruction-level work, so lane configurations will shift as phases progress — plan for that to continue well into 2026 and beyond. TxDOT's construction map and the Town of Flower Mound's project tracker at flowerMound.com both carry current lane closure status. Check before you leave if your timing is tight.
