LISD's $15.4M Round of Campus Work Is Already Underway This Summer

If you drive past Timber Creek Elementary this summer and see work crews, you're not imagining things.

At a March 9 board meeting, LISD trustees gave the green light to $15.4 million worth of campus construction work, and all but one of those projects started this summer. The holdout — a concession stand rebuild at Lewisville High School — was set to begin after the 2026 baseball season.

Here's where the dollars are going:

The largest chunk, nearly $9.08 million, covers Highland Village Elementary playground and paving improvements along with various LISD programs. Timber Creek Elementary is getting new shade structures ($434,904) and a new marquee ($80,057). Lewisville High School lands both a baseball concessions replacement (almost $2.53 million) and a boys track locker room renovation ($1.09 million), plus over $1 million for its indoor athletic center. The Colony High School gets close to $1.17 million for indoor athletic center upgrades.

The Highland Village Elementary investment is the biggest single-campus line item in the batch, and it comes with some backstory. Money that had been earmarked for 20-year renovations at the Lewisville Learning Center was redirected — it now funds Highland Village Elementary's improvements and construction work tied to several LISD programs. The Lewisville Learning Center had been declared surplus, and the district was working to relocate programs out of it before the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The total comes to nearly $15.38 million — about $1.1 million over the original budget. The concession stand alone ran long. That renovation went about $1.3 million over budget, largely due to adding air conditioning and sliding windows to match other concession stands, plus an expanded bathroom building to accommodate a family restroom required by building code. Randy Fite, the district's executive construction director, said available funds from land sales, bond project savings, and bond interest earnings can cover the overage.

This $15.4 million package is separate from LISD's broader wave of 20-year lifecycle renovations touching Flower Mound Elementary, Coyote Ridge, Hicks, and other campuses, which are also underway and stretch into 2027.
