School started yesterday. If you blinked through the chaos of first-day drop-off, here's what the board locked in at its August 10 meeting — decisions that are already shaping this school year.

The 2026–27 District Improvement Plan is adopted. The board formally approved the plan Monday, setting the academic and operational priorities that teachers and campuses will work toward all year. Think of it as the district's public commitment on where attention and resources go — the things that show up in classroom instruction, staffing decisions, and how progress gets measured. The full plan is available at lisd.net for any family who wants to read what the district has promised to prioritize.

New head coaches and directors were named. The board approved new head coaching and director positions across campuses. Specifics on which sports and which schools weren't included in the recap, so if your athlete is in a program this fall, a quick call to the campus athletic office will confirm who's leading it.

A PediPlace update was delivered. The board received a report on PediPlace, the nonprofit pediatric health clinic that operates inside LISD. The clinic serves low-income and uninsured children — Medicaid, CHIP, and uninsured patients — and is a resource many LISD families rely on. The recap didn't include detail on what the update covered; if your family uses PediPlace, their main number is 972-436-7962.

One date to keep straight: the first day of school was Wednesday, August 12. If drop-off went sideways and you're still sorting out routines, you're not alone. Today is day two.
