If you have a student in Northwest ISD, October 29 is worth marking on the calendar.

On October 29, Northwest High School opens its doors from 6 until 8 p.m. for the district's College & Career Fair. Colleges and universities from across Texas will be in the room. Students from sixth grade through 12th grade can walk in, ask real questions, and leave with a clearer picture of what comes after high school. Free to attend.

That grade range is worth noting. Juniors and seniors are the obvious audience — they're already deep in the process — but the district is opening the door to younger students too. A sixth grader who wanders through and discovers a field they'd never considered still has two years of middle school to think about it before CTE academy decisions come around.

Earlier this fall, Northwest ISD hosted CTE Academy Nights, each on a different campus and aimed at eighth graders deciding whether to enroll in a career academy. Those nights covered programs including Biomedical Sciences, Culinary Arts, Aviation, Construction, Cosmetology, Creative Media Production, and STEM, spread across Eaton, Byron Nelson, and Northwest High School. Those events have passed. The October 29 fair is the district-wide, college-focused follow-up — same season, broader scope.

One building. One night. Dozens of institutions in the room instead of scattered across websites or requiring a road trip.

To prep your student beforehand, the district's College, Career & Military Fairs page at nisdtx.org has the list of attending schools. Northwest ISD counselors can fill in the campus-specific details — parking, which programs will have reps there, anything worth bringing.

October 29, 6 to 8 p.m., Northwest High School.
