One meeting. That's what's left.

The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees votes on final boundary changes at their regular November meeting. Whatever the board approves determines which high school rising freshmen across the district will attend starting August 2027 — and for families with middle schoolers at home, that is not an abstract question.

FloMoBee covered the public input sessions when they opened in early October. Community meetings were held October 5 at Byron Nelson High School and October 7 at Northwest High School, each at 6 p.m. A third session was scheduled for October 20 at Eaton High School.

Here is why the district is redrawing lines at all. Byron Nelson, Eaton, and Northwest — the three comprehensive high schools in the district — are all bumping up against or already past their enrollment capacity. Davis High School will open in the southeastern portion of the district, providing the most relief to Eaton, which is currently over capacity.

Under the proposed map, several elementary school attendance zones would feed into Davis, along with portions of others. Byron Nelson, as the zone with the most established residential communities, is projected to see sharply declining enrollment if its boundaries stay unchanged — so the district is proposing to expand its attendance zone. Northwest High School, projected to grow the most in the coming years, would see its geographic boundaries shrink.

One detail worth knowing if your family might be affected. The district plans to recommend that the board allow rising seniors, juniors, and sophomores to remain at their current campus, even if their address moves to a new zone. Students who choose to stay at their current campus will not be eligible for district-provided transportation. Davis operates under a tighter rule: if you have been rezoned there, you can only opt out if you qualify under a narrow set of criteria.

These boundaries are designed with a goal of remaining in place for four years for affected areas. This is not a decision the district expects to revisit any time soon.

The proposed maps are already public at nisdtx.org. Plug in your address, see where you land. After the board votes, families across the district can expect the result to appear online and in direct communication from the district within a day. The November meeting is open to the public, and residents can sign up to speak during the public comment period before the vote.
