Scott Gibson Middle School Opens Tuesday — Nine Days From Now

Nine days. That's how long Argyle ISD families have to confirm which middle school their kid is walking into on August 11.

Tuesday, August 11 is the first day of school for Argyle ISD, and it also happens to be opening day for a building that didn't exist last school year. The new campus on FM 407 honors a principal the district lost: Scott Gibson, who led Argyle Middle School until his death in 2024, and whose name the school now carries. It serves grades 7 and 8, with a capacity of 1,200 students.

This isn't a ribbon-cutting while kids stay put somewhere else. The new attendance zones take effect this fall, when the middle school on FM 407 opens. In the 2026–27 school year, seventh and eighth graders are zoned to both the FM 407 and US 377 campuses — meaning roughly half the district's middle schoolers have a different address for school than they did in May.

Families west of US 377 are zoned to the FM 407 campus. Neighborhoods east of US 377 are zoned to Argyle Middle School on US 377. The board approved one adjustment to the original proposal: the Bonnie Brae Road and Vintage Boulevard neighborhoods, tucked in the district's northern reaches, will feed into the eastern US 377 campus rather than the western one. The Board of Trustees approved the attendance zones after reviewing the original proposal.

The reason the district needed a whole new building comes down to raw numbers. Projections show the district could serve over 11,000 students by 2033–34. Adding the new middle school is part of a 10-year strategic plan that includes eventually splitting into two middle schools and two high schools.

The FM 407 campus is funded through the 2022 bond. It occupies a site along the north edge of FM 407 — I-35W lies to the east, and Sam Davis Road runs just above it to the north.

The practical to-do is simple: look up your student's zone before Tuesday. The district has posted a Graduation Year Impact Table and a Middle School/High School Zoning Map on its website — families can find their student's graduation year, then check which zone applies. The direct lookup tool is at argyleisd.com/about/find-your-middle-or-high-school-zone. Wrong building on day one is a fixable problem, but it's easier to fix before you're in the drop-off line.
