Most summer trouble here is heat and dryness, and both are easy to stay ahead of with a little setup.
Reading the warnings
A heat advisory means conditions are dangerous for vulnerable people; an excessive heat warning is the more serious step up. Either way the playbook is the same: hydrate, limit midday exertion, and never leave anyone — or any pet — in a parked car.
Burn bans
When the ground dries out, the county can issue a burn ban that restricts outdoor burning. It's worth knowing whether one is active before any yard work involving fire.
Worth enabling
Turn on Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, and consider the county's opt-in notification system for the local, address-level warnings that national apps miss.
