Shannon Knowles Is FMHS's New Principal — and She Already Knows Every Hallway

If you've got a kid walking into Flower Mound High School this August, you now know who's in charge of the place — and she already knows it better than most people realize.

Lewisville ISD announced on June 8 that Shannon Knowles has been named principal of FMHS. Knowles most recently served as principal of Argyle High School and returns to FMHS — where she previously served as assistant and associate principal for seven years — bringing 27 years of experience in public education to the role. That's not a courtesy bio. Seven years as associate principal at a school this size means you've already fought the budget battles, worked the calendar, and learned which problems come back every October.

She joined Flower Mound High School in 2017 as associate principal, and in that capacity oversaw athletics, performing arts, academic UIL, special education, foreign language, and student council programs, led the development of the campus master schedule, and served as a mentor for new secondary assistant principals across the district. The master schedule alone is one of the most consequential things a high school administrator touches. It's where class access, teacher workloads, and student opportunity either get sorted out or quietly fall apart.

Then she went to Argyle and ran her own school. In 2024, she was named principal of Argyle High School, where she led campus improvement efforts focused on instructional alignment, CCMR outcomes, and staff development. CCMR — College, Career, and Military Readiness — is the Texas metric that actually follows students after graduation. The one that tells you whether a school is preparing kids for something real.

She's back because LISD wanted her back. "Shannon Knowles knows this campus, knows this community, and knows what it takes to lead at the highest level," said LISD Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp. "Her combination of deep roots at Flower Mound High School and the growth she has experienced as a principal makes her the ideal person to lead FMHS into its next chapter."

Knowles didn't hedge either. "Flower Mound High School holds a very special place in my heart, and I am deeply honored to serve as its next principal," she said.

The timing matters. School starts in weeks, not months. There's no runway here — no quiet fall semester to get oriented. The upside is she doesn't need one. She knows the feeder schools, the staff culture, the parking lot, the UIL calendar. She built the master schedule. A new-to-the-building hire would spend the whole first semester just catching up to where Knowles already is.

The question worth watching isn't whether she knows the job. It's whether the job has changed since she left it. Staff who worked under her before have opinions — some will be relieved, some may have complicated feelings. By winter break, parent and teacher feedback will tell you whether this hire is paying off the way LISD is betting it will.
