The CAC Is About to Get a Lot Bigger — Here's What's Planned and Why Your Input Right Now Actually Matters

If you use the CAC — the pool, the courts, the fitness floor, the tot drop — the next year or so is your best shot at shaping what you actually get.

The town is deep in the design phase for a major expansion of the Community Activity Center on Gerault Park Road. An additional 55,000 square feet will be added to the building, resulting in a facility just over 115,000 square feet when complete. That's nearly doubling what's there now. The voter-approved May 2025 Bond Election allocated $49.1 million for the project. That money is real and committed. What's still being decided is what, exactly, gets built with it.

Early plans include renovating the lobby and locker rooms, plus the addition of a year-round indoor leisure pool, expanded fitness area, new basketball/multisport courts, concessions area, indoor playground, additional group exercise rooms, and a larger tot drop area. That's a meaningful list. But a list of spaces is not the same as a layout that actually fixes the bottlenecks — and the design team is still working through exactly that.

The project is currently in the design phase, which is expected to last 14–16 months. During this time, building plans will be refined and developed into detailed construction documents that will be used for construction during the renovation and expansion. Once those documents are locked, the window for shaping outcomes closes. That's the dynamic worth understanding here.

Construction is expected to start in late 2027 and be completed at the end of 2029, according to the town. A long runway. Also a long stretch of disruption for anyone whose routine runs through Gerault Park. How access will be managed during construction isn't spelled out yet. Worth asking.

The CAC was originally built in 2008 on the north end of the Gerault Park property. The building has held up, but Flower Mound has grown around it. The same facility that served a smaller town is now absorbing far more demand without more space. The expansion is a direct response to that math.
