The CAC Water Park Runs a Sensory-Friendly Session This Morning — 9:30 to 11:30

No music, fewer whistles, and a quiet indoor escape — the outdoor water park on Gerault looks a little different today on purpose.

If your kid has ever hit a wall at a crowded pool — too much noise, too many strangers splashing, lifeguard whistles every thirty seconds — this morning is worth rearranging your schedule for.

The CAC's outdoor water park at 1200 Gerault Rd. is running a sensory-friendly swim session from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today. It's open to members and guests, and regular CAC entry fees apply.

Here's what actually changes during those two hours: the pool shifts to open play with limited water features, no loud music, and limited lifeguard whistles. A quiet area indoors is also available for anyone who needs a break. The goal is to remove the sensory triggers — sudden booming sounds, echo, unpredictable chaos — that make a standard summer afternoon at the water park genuinely hard for some kids and adults.

No documentation, no diagnosis required. The town describes it as an event for individuals with special needs, but the practical effect is a calmer swim for anyone who benefits from one. Families with kids who have autism, ADHD, anxiety, or sensory processing differences are the obvious audience. Nobody's checking credentials at the gate.

The outdoor water park has the usual layout: slides, a lazy river, and a play structure. The sensory-friendly session doesn't close anything down. It just changes the atmosphere inside it for two hours.

The session ends at 11:30 a.m., so plan for a morning trip. Check flowermound.gov/specialevents or call the CAC directly to confirm capacity or ask about registration before heading over.
