The Grateful Threads Quilts Are on Display Through the End of August

Five handmade quilts are on display in Flower Mound this month, including one made from nearly 1,000 pieces of fabric and another built from decades of baseball memories.

The Grateful Threads exhibit is currently on display at the Flower Mound Senior Center, 2701 W. Windsor Drive, where the quilts will remain through the end of August.

Among the pieces is “Dream Flight,” created by Anne-Marie Jennings from nearly 1,000 pieces of colorful batik and cotton fabric. Jennings also created “Empress Garden,” a mixed-media quilt inspired by the Japanese Garden in Fort Worth.

“Celtic Wonder,” by Tonya Stevens, showcases reverse appliqué, while “Born on the Fourth of July,” created by Dana Hornung and quilted by Judy Reel, offers a distinctive interpretation of the American flag.

“Pitcher’s Delight” has a story of its own. Elsie Grundtvig created the memory quilt using nearly 30 tournament T-shirts collected during 25 years of championship baseball tournaments around the country.

The exhibit is part of Flower Mound’s Art Display Walls program, which brings rotating artwork into public spaces around town, including the Senior Center and Flower Mound Public Library.

Grateful Threads is also an active Seniors in Motion quilting group. Senior Center members can bring their own sewing or quilting projects and join the group Mondays from 8 a.m. to noon.

The five Grateful Threads quilts will remain on display at the Flower Mound Senior Center through the end of August.
