The Library's Creation Lab Reopened Today With a New Expansion

The Friends of the Library's record $80,000 gift funded a real expansion: more room, more machines, same free library card.

If you've been sitting on a waitlist for a laser engraver slot at the Broadmoor Lane library, today's a good day to check back in. The Flower Mound Public Library's Creation Lab reopened this morning after an expansion that adds more square footage to the maker space — new machines included.

Local volunteers made it happen. The Friends of the Flower Mound Public Library wrote their largest-ever single donation, $80,000, with those funds split between expanding the Creation Lab and building a children's play patio. That money didn't come from a town budget line. It came from book sales and years of neighbor-driven fundraising by people who wanted the library to be more than a place to pick up holds.

The need was clear: usage in the Creation Lab had climbed sharply, and the original footprint had run out of room. The expanded space brings a sublimation printer, heat presses, a Cameo 3 cutting machine, and more open workspace. The lab already had a 3D printer, laser engraver, sewing and embroidery machines, Cricut cutters, and design software. More than a dozen machines total, all free with a valid Flower Mound Public Library card.

Using it is straightforward. Patrons can reserve machines up to a week in advance. A Use Agreement is required before your first session, and equipment time is capped at two hours per day. Kids under 13 need an adult present. Walk-ins work when machines are open, but a reservation is the safer bet.

Hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The lab is closed Friday and Sunday. The library is at 3030 Broadmoor Ln. Current equipment list, hours, and the booking link are at flowermound.gov/2069/Creation-Lab.
