Trotter Park Breaks Ground September 7 — $10.25M, 16 Months, and 12 Pickleball Courts

If you drive past 4551 Cross Timbers Road, you know the spot. A flat, grassy parcel that has spent years as Flower Mound's most ambitious placeholder. That changes in less than a month.

Construction kicks off September 7, with a TDLR-registered completion date of January 7, 2028, and an estimated cost of $10,250,000. Just under 16 months of active work on the west side of town.

The scope is bigger than most people expected. The project calls for a new parking lot, playground, one basketball court, two tennis courts, 12 pickleball courts, and a loop trail around an open green space. The finalized master plan also includes an entry plaza, a restroom, a large open lawn, and an enhanced native area. The half-mile looped trail will circle the whole site — council asked for a combination of concrete and crushed granite or a similar product when approving the design.

The pickleball count is worth a closer look. Council bumped the planned courts from eight to 12 when it approved the master plan in July 2024. Twelve courts on one site makes this a real destination, not just a neighborhood amenity.

Funding comes from a few sources. The town received a $750,000 Texas Parks and Wildlife outdoor recreation grant toward the project. As a condition of that grant, Flower Mound must keep Trotter Park publicly accessible, properly maintained, and designated as park land in perpetuity. The remainder of the $10.25M comes from town funds.

For neighbors along Cross Timbers Road, the practical reality is 16 months of construction traffic and noise on an active corridor. The town has not yet published a phased-closure or access schedule.
