Trotter Park Gets a Shovel Date: Construction Starts September 7

If you've been watching that empty field at 4551 Cross Timbers Road and wondering when something was actually going to happen — the answer is September 7.

The Town of Flower Mound has filed Trotter Park with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, listing a start date of September 7, 2026, a completion date of January 7, 2028, and an estimated cost of $10,250,000. Not a rendering. A filed construction record.

The scope covers a parking lot, playground, one basketball court, two tennis courts, 12 pickleball courts, and a loop trail around open green space, all on the 13.11-acre Cross Timbers Road site.

That pickleball count didn't start at 12. At a July 2024 meeting, Town Council approved the conceptual master plan and bumped the planned courts from eight to 12. Anyone who's tried to snag a court at the CAC on a weekday morning knows exactly why.

The money is layered and committed. Funding comes from the Park Development Fund, Dedicated Sales Tax, and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant — $750,000 awarded as part of $30.9 million in grants distributed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. That grant carries a condition: the town must keep Trotter Park publicly accessible, properly maintained, and designated as parkland in perpetuity.

The finalized master plan also includes an entry plaza, an all-inclusive playground, a restroom, a half-mile looped trail, a large open lawn, and an enhanced native area. The land was previously dedicated during development of the adjoining Town Lake residential subdivision, so those neighbors have had a long look at an empty lot.
