Two New Sushi Spots Just Opened in Flower Mound — and They're Not the Same Restaurant

Before you type "Wabi" into Google Maps, stop. There are now two separate, unrelated sushi restaurants in Flower Mound with that word in the name, and they opened within weeks of each other. Neither one is a branch of the other.

Wabi House opened at the end of May along FM 2499, in the space Parlor Doughnuts vacated when it relocated to Dallas in January. It's part of an existing North Texas chain with locations in Keller, Frisco, Dallas, and Fort Worth. The menu leans izakaya: ramen, yakitori, salmon sashimi, edamame, and a full bar with cocktails, sake, wine, and beer. They've also rolled out sushi pockets — bite-sized, tofu-pouch samplers that have become a signature item across their locations.

A couple of weeks later, Wabi Sushi opened at 1450 Long Prairie Rd., Suite 110 — same road, completely different ownership. Chef Dongwhun Lee, who goes by Chef AK, is the independent operator behind this one. He's been working in Japanese restaurants since 2006 and learned sushi while living in Los Angeles. His stated goal: make sushi work for regulars and first-timers alike. The menu covers rolls, nigiri, rice bowls, dumplings, and a kids' menu with items like grilled bulgogi and honey-glazed chicken. He is also doing sushi pockets.

Both restaurants. Sushi pockets. That is not going to help anyone tell them apart.

Here's the real risk. A resident searches "Wabi sushi Flower Mound," GPS sends them to the wrong address, they have a fine or a frustrating experience, and they leave a review for a restaurant they never meant to visit. Neither owner controls what Google's algorithm surfaces. The naming collision was presumably coincidental — but coincidental doesn't mean consequence-free. Bad reviews have a way of sticking regardless of which Wabi earned them.

Watch whether either restaurant moves to sharpen its identity through signage, local ads, or social media before the confusion takes a bite out of their early momentum. Wabi House has the chain infrastructure and name recognition to absorb some misdirection. Wabi Sushi, as a brand-new independent, has less room for it. Chef AK is the one with something to lose here.
