White Castle Just Broke Ground 20 Minutes from Your Front Door
The chain you drove to Kansas for? It's coming to The Colony this fall.

If you grew up in the Midwest and spent years bribing relatives to ship you frozen sliders, you can finally stop. White Castle broke ground on June 2 at Grandscape in The Colony — its first-ever Texas location after 105 years in business. That's not a soft-open teaser or a ghost kitchen experiment. That's a real building going up about 20 minutes east of Flower Mound.
The address is 4520 Destination Drive, right in the heart of Grandscape. The restaurant is expected to open in late fall 2026. The 3,430-square-foot building will have a double drive-thru, canopy seating, and a patio — so you've got options beyond eating in your car, which, honestly, is the classic move anyway.
The groundbreaking itself was very on-brand. Dignitaries traded golden shovels for spatula-shaped ones, and the ceremony included a ritual "sprinkling of the onions" over the future grill site. The Colony Mayor Richard Boyer was there alongside White Castle executives, including fourth-generation members of the founding family. Chief People Officer John Kelley and Corporate Relations Manager Erin Shannon are both descendants of the chain's founder. This is still a family business. That matters.
For context: White Castle operates 336 restaurants, concentrated mostly in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, and Minnesota. Texas has never had one. Until now, your options were a road trip or the grocery freezer aisle — and those frozen sliders, while not terrible, are not the same thing.
The Colony keeps pulling this off. Portillo's — the Chicago-based hot dog and beef sandwich chain — also chose Grandscape for its Texas debut. There's a pattern here: destination-brand first-timers betting that the Sam Rayburn Tollway corridor has the traffic and the transplant population to make a splash. It does. Flower Mound residents are a short shot up FM 423 away from all of it.
The new location is expected to bring 70 jobs to the area. Construction delays are always possible, especially on a debut location carrying this much brand weight. But right now, late fall 2026 is the target. Mark it.
