Your House Number Now Sets Your Watering Days — Here's How It Works

Check the last digit of your house number. That digit now controls when you can run your sprinkler system — and getting it wrong is an enforcement matter, not a friendly reminder.

The Town now operates under an updated Long-Term Water Conservation Plan, which bans outdoor watering with automatic irrigation systems or hose-end sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The schedule breaks down simply: residential addresses ending in an even number water on Tuesday and Friday; odd numbers water on Wednesday and Saturday. Commercial properties, HOA lots and common areas, and multi-family properties water on Monday and Thursday.

The town's updated Long-Term Water Conservation Plan is codified in Ordinance No. 40-25. This isn't a drought emergency measure. It's the standing baseline now. These restrictions could change based on drought or water storage and pumping conditions, and if the need for additional restrictions arises, the town will enter its Emergency Water Demand Management Plan. Two days a week is the floor, not the ceiling.

If you prefer a hose or a bucket, you're fine. Irrigation of landscaped areas and building foundations is permitted at any time if it is by means of a hand-held hose, faucet-filled bucket, drip irrigation, or soaker hose systems. Drip lines around your foundation — which matter a lot to North Texas clay soil — stay unrestricted. Properties under development and those watering for the establishment of new landscaping are exempt from the schedule prior to final irrigation review.

The Upper Trinity Regional Water District, which supplies Flower Mound's water alongside the town's own infrastructure, has a stake here too. UTRWD is offering a free Irrigation System Check-Up Program in which a licensed irrigator schedules a one-hour visit to make sure your system is functioning properly and efficiently — to request one, visit utrwd.com/water-less-yall.

The practical move right now: pull up your controller tonight and reprogram it to your assigned days before the next scheduled run. If you water on the wrong day — even once, even by accident — that's not a warning situation. The town is actively asking residents to report properties that are over-watering. Neighbors are watching, and there's a form for that.
