FM 2499 and FM 3040 Gets Dual Left-Turn Lanes — and a Major Rebuild Underway

If you drive through the FM 2499 and FM 3040 intersection with any regularity — heading toward the tollway, running school drop-off, hauling a load to a job site — the next stretch of months is going to feel different. Construction is active.

The work is now underway. When it wraps, every direction through the intersection will carry dual left-turn lanes, three through lanes, and a dedicated right-turn lane — a real step up from what's there now. Crews will also add a dedicated right-turn lane into the Chick-fil-A near the intersection to pull some of that queue off the main road.

The town's official project description adds a few details worth knowing. Beyond the lane reconfigurations, the project replaces the traffic signals entirely and upgrades crosswalks and ADA ramps. The intersection isn't just getting wider — it's getting rebuilt from the ground up.

Lane closures during construction are restricted. Per the town's engineering staff, crews work during daytime off-peak windows to keep the intersection moving as much as possible. Still, expect reduced capacity and slower movement through the area, particularly during morning and afternoon commute hours.

The payoff, once it's done: dual left-turn lanes in each direction should dramatically cut the cycle-by-cycle stacking that backs up FM 2499 during peak times. The third through lane removes the merge point that creates the bottleneck today. Straightforward capacity math, and the fix is proportionally large.
