Lakeside Parkway Is Getting Two New Lanes — From FM 2499 to SH 121

If Lakeside Parkway is part of your daily commute — eastbound in the morning, westbound in the evening — the road you're driving is about to get wider.

The Lakeside Parkway Capacity Improvements project will widen the stretch between FM 2499 and SH 121 from four lanes to six. That covers the full corridor from Long Prairie Road east to the town's border near State Highway 121.

Town Council awarded the construction contract on March 2, 2026. Denton County Commissioners Court had already locked in its share on February 3, 2026, committing up to $9,488,000 through an interlocal agreement with the town. Total project budget is $14.2 million. Denton County carries $9.5 million of that; the town covers the rest.

Design work has been underway since 2021. Money is committed. A contractor is on board.

Two new traffic signals are also part of the project — one at Lakeside Parkway and Silveron Boulevard, one at Lakeside and Enterprise Drive. Town officials say both intersections need them because of heavier truck traffic and development coming to the corridor. Traffic growth between 2021 and 2025 pushed the roadway below the standards the town's thoroughfare plan sets for a major arterial. The road was built for a different version of Flower Mound.

There's one more piece to know. Just beyond Flower Mound's boundary, where Lakeside Parkway runs through to SH 121, town officials are working out an easement with Grapevine. The goal is a configuration of five total lanes on that segment — three heading east and two heading west. That agreement is separate and still in progress.

Denton County Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell pointed to the funding source: "These voter-approved funds allow us to work with our towns and cities on road projects that are important within their communities for better transportation access."

What to watch for: Construction activity on Lakeside Parkway between FM 2499 and SH 121. Expect lane work and traffic management once crews mobilize. The town's construction projects page at flowermound.gov will carry schedule updates as they become available.
