The FM 2499 and FM 3040 Intersection Is Being Rebuilt — Lane Closures Run Weekdays Through July 2027

If you cut through the FM 2499 and FM 3040 intersection on a weekday morning, expect delays through July 2027. Construction is underway, with lane closures in effect on weekdays. Evenings and weekends are clear. Shift an errand or a school pickup run outside those hours and you'll avoid most of it.

What's actually being rebuilt here: every approach to the intersection is getting a significant capacity upgrade. Each direction will end up with two left-turn lanes, three lanes straight through, and its own right-turn lane. The eastbound FM 3040 dual right-turn lane that already exists stays put. When the work wraps, this will be a meaningfully wider intersection than what's there today.

Flower Mound Town Council unanimously approved a contract worth over $2.82 million with Boyd-based 2L Construction at the March 2 meeting. That's not the whole bill. Denton County Commissioners Court approved a separate agreement to contribute additional county transportation bond funding to the project.

Anyone who's sat in the backup near the shopping center on the east side knows the other problem this project addresses. Crews will add a dedicated right-turn lane into the nearby Chick-fil-A, which will help clear drive-thru traffic that has backed up into the main lanes.
